Another new gallery of pictures has been added to alexandnicole.com, this time from our recent trip to Monterey. I was also reading today's newspaper, and was surprised to see that unemployment in Santa Clara County is at an 18 year high, at 7.9 percent. Over 80,000 people are out of work. It's a tough time around here, and I'm really glad/lucky to have a job.

A new gallery of pictures (the first since I brought the site online) has been added to alexandnicole.com -- you can click here to see our Yosemite trip photos. I have some other pictures to get online eventually, and of course, there's always the issue of getting those wedding photos online. Also, an important news bulletin: I like cheese.

Well, updating frequently turned out to be a lot more effort than I had originally thought. I am going to start updating again soon though, probably next week. ( alexandnicole.com will be getting updated more frequently as well.) In the meanwhile, check out this interesting article about remote-controlled rats.

I hope to have more time to update this site soon. Please drop me an email at awiesen@cs.stanford.edu if you'd like to say hello, though!

I'm pretty sure Ikea is Legos for grownups. I was assembling a bunch of furniture today on my "vacation" day. As I went through all the boxes, I suddenly had a deep feeling of deja vu, as if I had done this all before. The simple, picture-based instructions -- assembling different units using combinations of the same basic parts -- the satisfying kerthunk of different parts connecting together -- tightening two pieces together to improve the quality of construction -- I could have been creating a brand new version of the Super Mega Alex Warcruiser 6000. Which makes me wonder: why doesn't Ikea make spaceships?
