One of my favorite companies right now, Squaresoft (aka Square.)
The theater inside featured a fifteen minute or so presentation
on the upcoming Squaresoft games, which are:
- Ergheiz, a fighting game with open arenas that includes 4
FF7 characters as fighters
- Saga Frontier 2, which had beautiful hand-drawn backgrounds
and tricked me into thinking it was a Seiken Densetsu game at
first. I hope it plays better than Saga Frontier. =P
- Chocobo Racing, a racing game that had no footage shown. Aren't
there enough fantasy kart racers for the Playstation now? Bomberman
Fantasy Race, Crash Team Racing, and now this?
- Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2. A really cute collection of
CG from the intro.
- Parasite Eve 2, presumably taking place in Los Angeles. "She's
Back!" Thanks, but please tell me she's less tedious and
can run faster.
- Final Fantasy Collection: Ahh, finally! Final Fantasy 5 in
the states! I've been trying to play the translated version
on my SNES emulator, but it's a poor substitute for a real console.
About time this game comes out over here. Also packed in: Final
Fantasy 6, a great game, but not sure if I'd bother playing
it again.
- Final Fantasy 8. A game I'm really looking forward to. A beautiful
masterpiece, if not terribly deep in terms of nonlinear gameplay.
Another cool thing was that each seat had a little active matrix
monitor screen that was hooked up to it that showed additional
information, CGs, and was synchronized with the lights in the
theater. Overall, a wonderful presentation. Ed really, really
wanted one of the nice denim FF8 shirts that the staff was wearing.
He kept mentioning it. Did I mention that Ed really wants one
of those nice FF8 shirts?
